DN&SNER Composition
Dundee & Newtyle and Scottish North-Eastern Railways. The conditions on the back of this unissued season ticket date it to June 1859. The D&N was opened on 16 December 1831 and achieved the remarkable feat of remaining nominally independent until the grouping. In the intervening years it was leased to the Dundee & Perth Railway and its successors. Extensions from the northern end of the D&N were built by the Newtyle & Coupar Angus Railway and the Newtyle & Glammis Railway respectively, by 1859 these were in the hands of the SNE and used as part of the Perth - Forfar line. The SNE itself was vested in the Caledonian Railway from 1 August 1866, by then the larger company was also the lessee of the D&N.
